OUTER HAVEN Poetry Night #1

  • 20 Polonia Avenue Brampton, ON, L6Y 0K9 Canada (map)

Little London Café - unit 110

Hosted and Curated by Paul Edward Costa - Mississauga Poet Laureate, the purpose of the OUTER HAVEN Poetry Night is to cultivate an independent community of poetry and spoken word in an intimate, boutique setting. Three local spoken word artists, chosen for their skill and proficiency (both in performance and publishing) will each perform a 15 minute set. There will also be six open mic spots available (first come, first serve-3 minutes each) and features for future editions may be chosen from previous open mic performers who have demonstrated their abilities.

The features for the first edition

1- Efetobore Mike-Ifeta

2- Sarah Wilson

3- Michelle Hillyard

The event will be PWYC at the door ($5.00 recommended), with the proceeds to be split evenly among the three features. The featured artists may also have books/merch available for sale on-site.

To further focus this event on the literary arts, there will be a spotlight during each edition where the host will highlight and promote a book that's been published by a currently active Canadian writer. The host will also highlight several periodicals accepting submissions from writers looking to publish.

The event will take place at Jas Singh and Kamal Singh's Little London Café - Brampton near Steeles and Chinguacousy/Mavis. It's a wonderful, British styled cafe that has a whole range of coffees, teas, and traditional food dishes such as Shepard's Pie, Sausage Rolls, Cheesecake, Paninis, and more =D

NOTE: While this is an independent event that welcomes the sharing of difficult experiences/truths (which may not be "family-friendly") and is not tied to non-profit or city-affiliated groups, there will be NO transphobic, homophobic, racist, sexist, intolerant, or hate speech permitted.
