Welcome to the Toronto launch of This Country of Mine, a translation by Elaine Kennedy of Didier Leclair's novel, Ce pays qui est le mien. Didier Leclair is one of the most prominent francophone authors of African heritage in Canada. Born in Montreal to Rwandan parents, he now lives in Toronto. Didier is the author of eight novels and the recipient of the Trillium Book Award and the Christine Dimitriu Van Saanen Book Prize. Ce pays qui est le mien was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award for French-language fiction in 2004.

This Country of Mine is Elaine Kennedy's first novel translation. Elaine studied English literature, French language and civilization as well as translation in North America and Europe. A native of Toronto, she presently lives in Montreal where she works as a freelance translator and editor. She has a long list of published translations to her credit, including works of fiction and non-fiction.
