Social Artivism: Poetry, Performance & Visual Arts Gallery is a creative initiative focused on developing a platform for emerging youth artists in the York University/North York community to showcase creative representations of their experiences, stories and knowledge as youth in marginalized and racialized communities.
Our works aim to challenge the mythical norms that misrepresent these communities yet are widely accepted across the City of Toronto, and the majority of North America. Racial discrimination, social, economic and political exclusion, Eurocentric patriarchy, mental health and many other topics that fall under the umbrella of social epidemics we are faced with.
Creatively we are able to act against these structures in place that affect our communities. As creatives, our focus is to engage in dialogue through exhibiting work from youth that engage with or a part of these communities.
