Toronto Poetry Slam

  • 1150 Queen Street West Toronto, ON, M6J 1J3 Canada (map)

The Drake Hotel

TPS is back with another hot slam and this time we're featuring the hilarious Brendan Flaherty!

He's a writer, spoken word poet, and occasional comic originally from Saskatoon on Treaty 6 Territory. He has represented his hometown at CFSW (once), CIPS at Verses (also once), and had a syndicated political humor column on CBC radio during the last federal election. He’s the founder and festival director of the Saskatoon Poetic Arts Festival (SPAF). He hosts a live talk show called Please Explain Toronto To Me, which is a follow-up podcast to his previous show This Night Will Change Your Life (which he’s still paying web hosting fees on, so go ahead and download those episodes). He’s been named a CBC Future 40 winner, which is like the 40 Under 40 except the trophy is etched with ‘recipient’. He’s happy to be here.

As always doors at 7 signup for slam + open mic at 730 and show at 8pm. Limited seating so if you arrive late you'll likely be standing.

$7 cover. All ages.

And if you can't make it to this slam, our next show at the Drake is Sept 13.

Accessibility info: The Drake Hotel has 1 step at the front door on Queen St. W. There are no steps and a button to open the door on Beaconsfield (west side of the building). To get from the lobby to the Underground, there are 19 steps to the doors/bar level, then 4 steps leading from the bar area to where the chairs are setup. Bathrooms are back on the same level as the bar in the Underground. A wheelchair accessible, gender neutral washroom is on the main lobby level.
